Special Features of AGV Forklift Batteries

AGV forklift batteries (usually referring to valve-regulated / tubular lead-acid traction batteries) are power-type lead-acid batteries specially designed for electric forklifts. They are fundamentally different from ordinary starter batteries and UPS batteries, with core advantages of high current, deep cycle, vibration resistance, long service life, and industrial durability.

1. Core Position: Traction-Type Power Battery (Not Ordinary Energy Storage)

  • Designed for continuous operation, frequent start-stop, and      high-current discharge of forklifts, belonging to deep-cycle      batteries.

  • Differences:

    • Automotive starter battery: High current in a short time,       shallow cycle;

    • UPS battery: Stable discharge, poor vibration resistance;

    • AGV forklift battery: Sustained high current, deep       discharge, vibration resistance, long cycle life.

2. Special Structural & Material Features

  • Tubular Positive Plate (Core)

Positive plates adopt a tubular structure, preventing active material shedding. Suitable for frequent high-current discharge and deep cycles, with a service life 2–3 times longer than ordinary lead-acid batteries.

  • Lead-Calcium / Lead-Antimony Alloy Grid

Lead‑calcium: maintenance-free, low gassing, low self-discharge.

Lead‑antimony: high conductivity, high mechanical strength for heavy loads.

  • Thick Plates + Strong Separators

Thicker plates for corrosion resistance and longer life.

Separators are acid-resistant and porous to ensure electrolyte flow.

  • Industrial-Grade Casing & Fixing

High-strength PP/ABS shell, impact-resistant, acid-resistant, high-temperature resistant.

Modular internal structure with reinforcement for vibration and bump resistance.

3. Electrical & Performance Advantages

Composed of 2V cells in series: 24V / 36V / 48V / 72V / 80V, strictly matching forklift motors. 48V is the most common for 3–5 ton forklifts.

Allows deep discharge (80%–100% DOD), cycle life ≥1200 cycles.

Sealed valve-controlled design, no regular watering or density testing.

Safety valve controls internal pressure for safer operation with less acid fume.

  • Strict Charging Requirements

Must use a special forklift charger with constant current/voltage, equalization, and overcharge protection.

Overcharge / over-discharge will greatly shorten service life.

  • Temperature Sensitivity

Capacity decreases at low temperatures; aging accelerates at high temperatures.

Optimal operating temperature: 20–30°C.
